10 November 2009 – NSW Govt announces gross feed in tariff for solar powered homes.
It’s never been a better, more inexpensive time to ‘go solar’ for Waverley and NSW residents. The NSW government announced extra financial assistance for solar powered homes in the form of a gross feed in tariff. This means that utility companies will be required to ‘buy’ for all the electricity that is generated by a solar power system at 60 cents per kilowatt hour (4 x times the buying rate) irrespective of whether that power is used by the homeowner or generated as surplus.
This means that householders who have a 1kW system could be paid up to $1000 from the feed-in tariff each year, guaranteed for 7 years!
With the current credit scheme available as well as this new incentive, people who buy a system could actually pay it off in as little as 5 years while enjoying reduced or no energy bills. The NSW gross feed-in tariff is due to commence in Jan 2010.
