About Solar Bondi
Waverley Council has partnered with Green Solar Group to install solar power panels on the roofs of the Bondi Pavilion (2kW) and Bondi Surf Bathers’ Life Saving Club (2kW) in the heritage-listed iconic Bondi Beach.
Locations
Bondi Pavilion
The Bondi Pavilion has been a well-known cultural hub for the local and wider community since it was built in 1928. Heritage-listed with local, State and Federal authorities, the iconic building is a centre for arts, theatre, music, workshops and major festivals and events.
Bondi Surf Bathers’ Life Saving Club
Established in 1907, the Bondi Surf Bathers’ Life Saving Club is officially recognised as the oldest surf life saving club in the world and is heritage listed. Dedicated to the highest quality of voluntary community service, Bondi SLSC continues to protect the bathers through manned patrols and associated services.
Solar Power Systems
Combined, over their life these solar power systems will:
- generate over 160,000 kWh of electricity free from the sun
- save close to $70,000 on energy bills
- help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 160 tonnes carbon dioxide
Solar power systems: The solar power modules are made by Suntech Power, the worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of solar modules, using technology developed at the UNSW Photovoltaic Special Research Centre. Green Solar Group uses SMA inverters, the largest inverter company in the industry.
Display units: A wireless energy monitor installed at each site will allow Council to monitor energy consumption in the building which will assist in encouraging energy-saving measures. Display units at each location will show visitors to Bondi beach how much power each system is producing in real time and amount of greenhouse gas emissions saved. Council will also be able to check the performance and output of each system over time online via a ‘web box’.
Community workshops: Waverley Council will be hosting community workshops on solar power, sustainable building and practical planning tips for local residents and businesses. To find out more, contact us here.
